Building a contemporary extension in Barnet - Case Study
Our client in Barnet, North London, wanted to add an extra room that would bring some light into his house and express his personality. We achieved this by adding a large rear house extension. The brick walls helped the expansion fit with the surroundings. Our client opted for industrial style steel framed glass panel doors to be installed. For a real contemporary look, we have built an interior flemish bond brick feature wall on one side of the extension, which contrasts beautifully with the cream coloured sofa sitting in front of it.
We started the construction by demolishing the existing conservatory and preparing the foundations. Then we constructed the block and beam wall and roof structure. We had made the plumbing and electric connections ready for the underfloor heating. To build the walls, we used bricks that matched the ones used on the original house perfectly - we then comleted the flat roof and added a large skylight. After fitting the glass panel doors, we had installed the underfloor heating. Finally, we moved onto the internal finishes such as plaster, skim, paint and floor tiles.
